Naked Donald Trump statue causes laughter and outrage in New York City (VIDEO)
The statue was erected in Union Square, with one onlooker describing the sculpture as ‘tragically beautiful’.
A naked statue of Donald Trump – complete with bulging belly and his trademark quiff (but minus balls) – caused quite a commotion when it appeared in one of Manhattan’s busiest areas yesterday.
The sculpture caused laughter and merriment in Union Square, with onlookers posing for selfies and ridiculing the Republican nominee’s imagined physique.
“It’s horrendously, tragically beautiful,” art fan Jeanne-Marie Patrick told the Guardian.
“It’s been a horrible week, this has been the best thing that happened to me all week.”
“It was funny. Everybody was just over here laughing and taking pictures,” store worker Rahshawn Gilmore added. “It was amazing.”
Hands clasped across its stomach, the sculpture – titled ‘The Emperor Has No Balls – gazed out across a busy street for two hours before it was removed by park officials.
“NYC Parks stands firmly against any unpermitted erection in city parks, no matter how small,” a spokesperson, as onlookers booed the park wardens sent to topple the statue.
The artist behind the designs, Ginger, said he wanted the statues to be as anatomically correct as possible and gave Trump a “constipated look”.
“I don’t expect these things to last more than 30 or 45 minutes,” the sculptor said.
“But I would love to watch some irate 65-year-old Trump supporter try to take the thing down with his bare hands.”
The anarchist group INDECLINE erected the statue, as well as others that were placed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Cleveland and Seattle.
This isn’t the first time Mr Trump has appeared as a work of art.
Artist Illma Gore faced violent backlash after she unveiled a controversial nude portrait of Mr Trump – titled ‘Make America Great Again’ – earlier this year.
In May, a mural showed the businessman building a ‘special relationship’ with Vladimir Putin – sealing their allegiance with a kiss.
