White supremacist stabs interracial couple because he didn’t want them to kiss in public
A white supremacist has stabbed a black man and a white woman after seeing them kiss in Washington.
Daniel Rowe, who was recently released from Washington State Penitentiary, had found his way to Olympia. Rowe, 32 is accused of an unprovoked attack on the couple.
He kept a straight face, police said, walked up to them and as he got near, shouted a racial slur and stabbed both of them with a knife, reports the Washington Post.
The knife grazed the woman and went into the man’s hip, a news release from Olympia police reads.
The release suggested that Rowe, who is homeless, could have been to Olympia on his way to Portland or Seattle.
Rowe ran off as the 47-year-old male victim chased him and tripped him up, apparently not realising that he was badly injured.
The attacker was knocked unconscious after hitting his head on the ground.
Lietenant Paul Lower, a spokesman for Olympia police said Rowe told officers arresting him: “He tells them, ‘Yeah, I stabbed them. I’m a white supremacist,’… He begins talking about Donald Trump rallies and attacking people at the Black Lives Matter protest.”
Rowe has tattoos reading “skinhead”, “white power” and “hooligan”. Another shows the Confederate flag.
Arrested on Thursday, Rowe was booked into Thurston County Jail on two counts of first-degree assault and possible malicious harassment.
The latter is used as a designation for hate crimes in Washtingon state.
“This has all the hallmarks of a hate crime,” Deputy Prosecutor Joseph Wheeler said at Rowe’s court hearing Wednesday, according to the Olympian. “This black-and-white couple was simply expressing their love for one another.”
Rowe had been imprisoned for a 2008 conviction for second-degree robbery.
