David Walliams is stepping into Lily Savage’s shoes for Blankety Blank revival
David Walliams is stepping into the shoes of Lily Savage – for a very special Blankety Blank revival.
The Britain’s Got Talent comic made the surprise announcement today on Twitter.
He revealed: “I have some very big shoes to fill as the new host of a special Christmas episode of #BlanketyBlank for @ITV”.
The iconic camp gameshow, which spawned US spin-off Match Game and drag parody Snatch Game, has aired hundreds of episodes since its creation in 1979.
The game sees two contestants aim to match the answers of six celebrity panellists on ‘fill in the blank’ statements.
The comic will step into the role left by Paul O’Grady’s drag alter ego Lily Savage, who hosted the last revival of the iconic gameshow until its cancellation in 2002.
Walliams added: “I have some very big shoes to fill as presenter of Blankety Blank, I loved Terry Wogan and Les Dawson as a child, and Paul O’Grady was absolutely hilarious.
“I hope I can bring this much loved show to life for a new generation.”
Peter Davey, ITV’s Head of Comedy Entertainment, said: “Blankety Blank is a much loved classic game show and this Christmas special on ITV will delight fans of the original whilst bringing it to life for a whole new generation.
“David Walliams is the perfect host for this, he’ll bring his comedic talents and warm personality to the show.”
Suzy Lamb, Head of Entertainment for Thames, said: “After 14 years off air, we are very excited to be bringing back such an iconic game show. With David Walliams at the helm, Blankety Blank will be packed with fun and laughter for the whole family to enjoy this Christmas.”
