However, during his acceptance speech, the actor pleaded with Hollywood to give more opportunities to actual trans actors, saying he would be happy to be the last cis actor in a trans role.

“Now listen to me, I’m not going to say this beautifully,” he said at the end of his acceptance speech for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

“To you people out there, you producers and you network owners and you agents and you creative sparks: please give transgender talent a chance.

“Give them auditions. Give them their stories. Do that,” he begged.

“And also one more thing: I would not be unhappy were I the last cisgender male to play a female transgender on television.”

“We have work to do,” Tambor concluded. “I love you.”

Transparent’s third season starts this week.

The hit US show returns September 23 – and it seems the Pfeffermans are as gloriously dysfunctional as ever.

Tambor stars as a trans woman Maura in the Amazon series – which focusses on a parent
coming out to their children and transitioning later in life.

The latest series opens with a birthday party for Maura, who has some news for her family.

The show has become a cult hit and one of Amazon’s biggest shows, with Tambor also winning Best Actor at the Screen Actors Guild awards earlier this year.
