One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson blocks ‘gay’ Larry comments from his Instagram
One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson has blocked people from using the name ‘Larry’ on his Instagram because people kept suggesting he was in a gay relationship with Harry Styles.
The ‘ship name’ Larry is often used by obsessive teen fans of the band who fantasise about an imaginary relationship between Tomlinson and Styles.
Some ‘Larry’ devotees can take the obsession to extremes, creating tribute videos, artworks, and fanfiction featuring the pair as a gay couple.
But Tomlinson has apparently had enough, and altered his Instagram settings this week to block any comment that uses the word.
The singer, who has a child via ex-girlfriend Briana, is currently dating Disney actress Danielle Campbell.
Fans are getting round the ban by using variants of the name, including Larrry and Lerry.
Bandmate Liam Payne last year said the ‘Larry’ ship drove him “insane”.
He told Attitude: “When the [gay marriage] law changed in the US, there were loads of rainbow flags flying at our shows, but I think that was mainly because people think of the Louis and Harry thing, which is absolutely nuts and drives me insane.
“It’s like when you know the ins and outs of what’s going on with people, it’s just annoying when it’s so stupid…It becomes like a conspiracy or a cult.
“He’s very happy about becoming a dad. But the funny thing is, there are some people out there who think that Louis getting Briana pregnant is fake.
“That it’s not real; it’s a cover up. And that’s the sort of s**t that gets to me. But you have to hold your tongue and that’s fine.”
