Comic book to honour Orlando victims with LGBT love stories
A comic book will be released later this year in honour of victims of the Orlando Massacre.
Backed by DC Comics, IDW Publishing the book features one hundred short comics penned by a number of writers, benefiting the fund for Orlando survivors maintained by LGBT charity Equality Florida.
Titled Love is Love, the 144-page book is dedicated to the memories of those lost in the June 12 attack.
Batwoman writer Marc Andreyko, who is organising the project, told the New York Times: “I’m a child of the 80s; I grew up with ‘We Are the World’ and Live Aid.
“Events like this shouldn’t be compartmentalised. They should hurt and we should want to change for the better.”
A number of big comic book names including Damon Lindelof, Patton Oswalt, Phil Jimenez and Olivier Coipel will contribute short comics to the book, which will sell for $9.99.
Andreyko quipped: “I purposely said it would be a one-page thing to get people to commit.”
Love Is Love is due out on December 21.
It is far from the first artistic tribute.
Hamilton creator Lin Manuel-Miranda captured hearts at the Tony Awards the day after the shooting with a spoken word poem.
It featured the beautiful words: “We chase the melodies that seem to find us/Until they’re finished songs and start to play,
“When senseless acts of tragedy remind us/That nothing here is promised, not one day.
“This show is proof that history remembers/We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger.
“We rise and fall and light from dying embers/Remembrances that hope and love lasts long.”
