Boy has ‘impure thoughts’, blames cheerleaders’ skirts, school punishes cheerleaders
A school has been criticised after punishing a whole cheerleading squad after a male student said he was distracted by their short skirts.
The student at Timpview High School had āimpureā thoughts after seeing the squad in their uniforms, People reports, and so his mother wrote to the school and complained.
After the formal complaint was made, rather than helping the male student to deal with the thoughts, the Utah schoolās administrators appear to have punished the whole cheerleading squad.
Administrators told the cheerleading coach at the school, who told the 44-strong cheerleading squad that they should not wear their uniforms on match day.
One cheerleader told Fox 13 that she thought the school was āalmost supporting a rape cultureā.
Another of the squad told People: āItās giving this boy power that when he grows up and does something to a girl, he can blame it on her skirt being too short.
āIt really made me angry. Why should this boy have control over what we wear?ā
But the school district has denied that the squad was told not to wear their uniforms.
A spokesperson for the Provo School District told Fox 13 that was not the case, but People reports that the administration is attempting to āfind out exactly what the cheerleaders were toldā.
One of the cheerleadersā parents said: āI was shocked when my daughter came home and told me, āWe canāt wear our uniforms on game day. Theyāre giving boysā dirty thoughts.ā
āI want the school to have a meeting with all of the cheerleaders and all of the parents, and I want our girls to walk out of that meeting with their heads held high. This boyās problem has nothing to do with them.ā
Recently, the state of Georgia said that itās legal to take photographs up a womanās skirt without their permission.
