Walmart withdraws ‘appalling’ Tranny Granny Halloween costume
Walmart has ditched a transphobic Halloween costume that was being sold via its online store.
Ahead of Halloween the US supermarket giant was stocking a so-called ‘Tranny Granny’ costume via its online marketplace.
The costume features breast and butt pads, a dress, and a babushka-style headscarf.
It made its way onto Walmart’s official website via a third-party ‘Marketplace Retailer’ and was not being directly stocked by Walmart.
However, after PinkNews reported the costume yesterday, a Walmart spokesperson said they were “appalled” and had removed the item from their site.
The spokesperson said: “This was a third party Marketplace item.
“While it’s listed on other sites, it clearly violates our policy and was quickly removed once we were notified.
“We’re appalled this seller put it on our site to begin with.”
The costume is also stocked by Halloween supplier Spirit Halloween, which last year defended a Cailtyn Jenner Halloween costume for men.
A description reads: “All the guys will be dressing up as superheroes and princes, but you will stand out among the rest in this hilarious Granny Men’s Costume!
“The costume includes a white tank dress with pink collar and colorful flowers all over as well as curvaceous butt and boob pads to complete the look.
“This granny wouldn’t go anywhere without her pink babushka with flower design headband to keep her hair perfectly in place.
“Slap on some makeup and get ready for your granny walk and you will have the room roaring with laughter!”
Walmart did not immediately return a request for comment.
Spirit previously defended its Jenner costume, writing: “Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year. Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her.”
The description of the costume said: “If you want some ‘Vanity’ this Halloween then try wearing the Unisex Call Me Caitlyn Costume.
“You probably won’t break any Twitter records when you wear this outfit like Caitlyn did when she first made her account, but you’ll be sure to get a few laughs out of your friends and the other guests at the get together.”
