Fans who can’t accept Wonder Woman’s bisexuality need to ‘get over it’
Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka has said fans who are upset at the news of the superhero’s sexuality need to “get over it.”
Rucka said fans who can’t accept her bisexuality are missing out on part of what makes her who she is.
“That’s like saying Superman is into justice and the American way, but doesn’t give a rat’s ass about truth,” Rucka told Gizmodo. “It’s like, ‘Really?’”
Rucka explained that the Amazons’ home island of Themyscira gave them little option but to have same-sex relationships.
“It makes no logical sense otherwise. It’s supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able … to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women,” Rucka said.
The writer said he was surprised when fans were upset about his statements.
“There’s nobody in the world who can look at Wonder Woman and go, “I love this character, I believe in what this character stands for,” and then say, ‘…AND I CANNOT ACCEPT THE FACT that she would accept an individual’s consensual love any way imaginable.’ If you don’t accept that, then you don’t.”
However, the majority of fans of the DC comic couldn’t contain their excitement at the news.
Wonder Woman is the latest superhero to adopt a LGBT identity.
In February, it was announced that Batwoman would stay true to her sexuality in an upcoming DC film.
The demand for more LGBT superheroes is rife as fans of the Marvel universe recently campaigned to give Captain America a boyfriend.
Fans of Disney also urged to give Princess Else from Frozen a girlfriend.
