Natalie Imbruglia joins campaign for same-sex marriage in Australia
Natalie Imbruglia is the latest celebrity to join the Say I Do Down Under campaign, the movement for marriage equality in Australia.
She joined the initiative as she took to Instagram to pose in the official campaign shirt and show her support for equal marriage.
“Everyone should have the right to marry the one they love” she wrote.
Equal marriage in Australia is at risk of being shot down, after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull failed to agree a compromise deal with opposition parties.
Mr Turnbull wants to put the issue at a public vote at a cost of $200 million, but opponents say the move is unnecessary and expensive, when a measure could simply be passed in Parliament.
Ahead of a showdown on the issue this month, a range of stars have backed the Say I Do Down Under campaign.
Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie, Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters, actress Kelly Ripa and singer Ellie Goulding have all shown support for the movement.
Joshua Sasse who created the campaign vowed that he wouldn’t tie the knot with his fiancée Kylie Minogue until same-sex marriage is legalised in the country.
Sasse said he came to the decision to wait before getting married because “It doesn’t feel right.”
“It’s not right, planning to get married and go through all of this when we’re running a campaign for marriage equality,” he said.
“I don’t know how we can, in all good conscience, in the middle of a campaign like this and then get married. That’s not ethical is it?”
