13 ideas for a perfectly purple Spirit Day costume
PinkNews takes a look 13 amazing ways you can show your support by going purple for Spirit Day 2016.
Millions of people go purple on Spirit Day to show their support for the LGBT community.
The annual event — which was first started by a Canadian teen in 2010 and has been promoted by GLAAD ever since — encourages people to wear purple or go purple online in solidarity with LGBT youth who are victims of bullying.
In case you’re struggling for ideas, PinkNews has pulled together some truly amazing purple-themed suggestions which will hopefully encourage you to show your support this October – with a little help from last year’s participants Laverne Cox, Ashton Kutcher and Lady Gaga.
1 Keep it simple
Laverne Cox looked amazing on last year’s Spirit Day – sleek, sophisticated and as beautiful as ever.
2 Or go all out!
Like Barney, everybody’s favourite, inclusive dinosaur.
3 Accessorize
Why not go all out with some purple socks? And scarf? And waistcoat? And iPod? And… you get the picture!
4 Get your friends involved
Like Ashton Kutcher did with his Two and a Half Men cast mates on last year’s Spirit Day.
5 Go Gaga with some hair dye
An LGBT icon in her own right, Gaga always goes above and beyond for her little monsters.
6 Say it with a smile
Look beautifully purple like Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.
7 The eyes are the windows to the soul
The Mother of Dragons believes in equality for all – we’re sure she’d happily ride to the rescue if any of her LGBT followers found themselves the victims of bullying.
8 Grab the spandex
Nothing says equality like dressing up in a full body spandex suit – right??
9 Drag it up
If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you ever gonna love somebody else?
10 Fun for all the family!
It’s never too early to teach your kids about LGBT equality? SO. CUTE.
11 Go sporty
Keeping fit AND promoting equality? What’s not to love?
12 Stay classy
If it’s good enough for Queen Elizabeth, then its good enough for us!
13 Whatever you do – just wear purple loud and wear it proud!
Why not just go all out and paint your WHOLE BODY purple???
