This gay couple got engaged at a Hillary Clinton rally, so she helped them celebrate
Hillary Clinton has met with a gay couple who got engaged at one of her rallies.
A clip released ahead of today’s election captures the moment, which took place at one of Clinton’s final rallies in Philadelphia on Saturday.
In the clip, Greg Goodwin explains how he decided to pop the question to long-time boyfriend Kyle Rush, who works as the deputy chief technology officer for the Clinton campaign.
Mr Goodwin explains: “Early into our relationship we realised we would be spending our lives together, it was really just a matter of time.
“Kyle and I have been together for about three years now, and for the past year and a half he had an opportunity to work on the Hillary Clinton campaign. It’s exciting to see the work Kyle does. I decided to propose to Kyle two or three months ago, and the campaign is such a big part of our life, so I thought it was awesome to incorperate the campaign into our proposal.”
He reached out to Kyle’s boss at the Clinton campaign, who went all-in on the idea of staging the surprise proposal at the rally, arranging a film crew to capture the moment.
The surprise went off without a hitch, with Greg surprising Kyle as he prepared for the rally. He proposed with matching rings bearing the campaign slogan ‘Stronger Together’ on the inside.
Secretary Clinton took time out to help the couple celebrate.
She said: “Congratulations, you guys! This is super.”
Greg explains “I was canvassing for you all day today, and then I’m engaged, and now I’m meeting you…”
Clinton tells him: “Sounds like an all-around good day. Thanks for all the help.”
When they show off their campaign slogan rings, she exclaims: “Oh my gosh, that is so adorable!”
Addressing the couple from on-stage during the rally, she adds: “Let’s prove that Love Trumps Hate.”
Writing on Facebook, Kyle said: “I am the luckiest person in the world to get to spend the rest of my life with Greg. You are my best friend and the love of my life. I love you so much. I’ve known this day would come since the moment we first met. It seems impossible, but love at first sight is a real thing. The future is ours. I can’t thank everyone enough that was involved in making this moment special.”
