Remember that time Trump stood up for gay people and Mexicans?
Before his shock victory in this year’s Presidential election, Donald Trump had already run to try his hand at being the Reform Party candidate back in 2000.
The businessman also, at the time, gave an interview to The Advocate, in which he defended gay people and Mexicans, and said he wanted to tax the super-rich.
Trump, before the fall of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, said he was in favour of allowing gay people to serve in the military, and came out in favour of LGBT protections in federal law.
“When somebody is victimised because of their ethnicity, the colour of their skin, or their sexual orientation, that must carry a harsh penalty.”
Adding: “I like the idea of amending the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include a ban of discrimination based on sexual orientation. It would be simple. It would be straightforward. We don’t need to rewrite the laws currently on the books, although I do think we need to address hate-crimes legislation.”
Of same-sex marriage, he stopped short of coming out in favour but said: “I do favour a very strong domestic-partnership law that guarantees gay people the same legal protections and rights as married people. I think it’s important for gay couples who are committed to each other to not be hassled when it comes to inheritance, insurance benefits, and other simple everyday rights.”
He also sent a strong message of support for gay people in his administration, saying: “I would want the best and brightest. Sexual orientation would be meaningless.”
Speaking of Pat Buchanan, Trump took aim saying his stance on immigration was “disgusting”.
He said: “He wants to divide Americans. Clearly, he has a love affair with Adolf Hitler, and that’s sick. Buchanan actually said gay people had chosen “satan[ism] and suicide.” Now he says he welcomes gay people into his campaign. The guy is a hypocrite.”

Fast forward to 2016, and Trump has vowed to leave same-sex marriage alone, saying it is “already settled”.
He is coming for Planned Parenthood, however; and has said he will appoint a pro-life Supreme Court justice.
