‘The fag*ot that voted for Hillary’: Manager attacks dad in front of four-year-old son
A gay man was referred to as the ‘faggot that voted for Hillary’ in front of his four-year-old son by a store manager in Colorado.
James Shawlin was shopping in national chain Floor and Decor for stones to finish a fireplace in his home.
Having already received faulty stones and returned them, he was checking boxes for cracks and breakages when a store manager spotted what he was doing and “was not too happy”.
“I was a little firm with him, and I just told him, ‘Hey, you know, my husband and I spend a lot of money here,” he said.
“We’ve been using you guys for ten years. We have $3,000 worth of stone.”
The manager replied by saying: “Oh, that explains it now. The faggot that voted for Hillary.”
Overhearing the conversation, another customer announced he had supported Donald Trump and followed Mr Shawlin and his son into the car park.
More horrifically, he accused Mr Shawlin of abusing his son by adding, “what are these faggots going to do to this child?”.
The 44-year-old said what left him traumatised was not the slurs, but to have such horrible things said in front of his son who is far too young to understand.
Having now left a review on Yelp, Mr Shawlin said: “What is this world coming to?
“I am shocked, hurt and very upset. You see this on the news but to actually be on the other side of it is crazy.
“I am in shock and in disbelief. I think that what hurts the most is how they mentioned to ‘what the faggots were going to do to this child.’”
A Floor and Decor spokesman has said the company has launched an investigation into the complaint and a regional manager had contacted Mr Shawlin to apologise.
