Three schools turned away these kids because they have married lesbian parents
A lesbian couple has said their children have been denied access to three schools because of their sexual orientation.
The couple spoke to various news outlets in Mexico to say because they are in a same-sex marriage, that their kids were denied access to the schools.
A complaint has been filed with the Consejo para Prevenir y Eliminar la Discriminacion de la Ciudad de Mexico by Martha and her partner, who decided to keep their names private to protect their children.
It states that their oldest daughter who was two-years-old in July 2015, was denied entry to Olinca in San Angel.
After the couple were given a tour of the school, Martha says she asked whether there were any other students with LGBT parents.
She told Animal Politico that the school director responded: “No, we donāt have a problem with that, so long as they donāt make a scene in front of the children.”
The director, when asked to clarify, allegedly said that she didn’t want any parents to “disrespect” anyone.
Then at a later date, the couple said they were trying to enrol their kids at Senda, the staff at which were supportive, but that they were later denied entry for their kids.
āThey began by telling me that they wanted the school to be more open, but unfortunately, the parents of the other children were very āCatholicā and they couldnāt accept my children,ā Martha said. āPlus the school didnāt want the other children to bully my children for having two moms. They said they preferred to āprotectā them and shield them from that āsuffering.ā
A third school, MiKinder in Jardines del Pedregal, which is affiliated with the Catholic Opus Dei, also turned down the children for entry, according to the complaint.
Despite the complaint, the couple say they don’t want their kids to attend any of the schools they mention.
They said they simply want to stop anyone else from going through the same ordeal.
