Sir Elton John says he wants to kiss Putin
Sir Elton John has said he’d kiss Vladimir Putin if the pair had a meeting on gay rights.
The superstar made the comments on the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire show, asked about his much rumoured meeting with the Russian leader.
Sir Elton had previously fallen for a hoax that Putin had called him, but the Kremlin has since confirmed they’d be willing to arrange such a meeting.
Asked about when the meeting might happen, Sir Elton said: “I don’t know.”
His husband David Furnish chipped in: “When we can get them together in the same place at the same time.”
“I’m very hopeful it will happen, but he’s a busier man than I am. Let’s put it like that”, Sir Elton added.
Then asked what he would say to the staunchly anti-gay Russian leader, Sir Elton quipped: “Give us a kiss!”
Meetings between the two men have been arranged previously but not gone ahead.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “There had been an agreement that, if their schedules allow, this meeting would take place.
“President Putin expressed readiness for this meeting. But this time, the meeting won’t take place, unfortunately.”
Sir Elton is so stranger to confronting politicians who don’t support LGBT rights, this week refusing to perform at President Trump’s inauguration.
