Sia splits from husband
Sia has split from her husband of two years.
The chart-topping singer, who identifies as queer, announced her split from husband Erik Anders Lang in a statement.
Sia, who tied the knot with the filmmaker in 2014, told People in a brief statement: “After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple.
“We are, however, dedicated to remaining friends. There will be no further comment.”
The singer quietly came out back in 2008, when she mentioned she is dating a woman in an interview with Attitude.
Speaking to AfterEllen at the time she said: “I’ve been talking to my love interest about what I am, and she’s like, ‘Are you going to come out?’ And I said, ‘I guess already did in Attitude.’ And I’d already told all my friends. The thing is I feel kind of straight because she’s kind of like a boy.
“[My love interest] thinks I’m straight. She’s like, ‘You’re straight; it’s just that your girlfriend is gay.’ So I’m straight, it’s just that my boyfriend’s a girl? She’s like, ‘I don’t care, whatever you’d like’.”
She tweeted in 2013: “I’m queer. I don’t really identify as a lesbian because I’ve dated predominantly men. But I’ve certainly dated women.”
“Labels really shouldn’t matter and don’t essentially matter it you’re lucky enough to come from an artistic background or a gay-friendly household. And I was lucky enough to come from that kind of household. [I realised early on] I really didn’t mind if you were a girl or a boy, I just wanted you to love me.
“It wasn’t until maybe three years ago that I really, really realised that I am queer. And here. Even I’m getting used to it. I can now say that I’m queer and proud, and that it gets better.”
