Radio host: We’ll give trans people a ‘special deal’ by banning them from bathrooms
A right-wing radio host has argued that transgender people should be given a “special deal” to ban them from public bathrooms.
American Family Radio host Bryan Fischer, a rabid opponent of LGBT rights reforms and non-discrimination laws, made the claim
after a listener suggested banning trans people from bathrooms and creating single-stall unisex bathrooms instead.
In a clip snipped by RightWingWatch, he said: “That’s what we suggested to Target, make that option as the third option available to people, so they’ve got a place they can go, so they’re not getting the same treatment, they’re getting special deal!
“They’re a tiny little slice of the population, they’re going to have a bathroom facility that’s reserved exclusively for them.
“Sexually normal people don’t have that; that’s a special deal. That’s not equal rights, that’s special rights!
“You get your own special bathroom with privacy that nobody else gets.”
As RightWingWatch points out, Fischer made a strikingly similar claim about same-sex marriage.
Rather than seeing equal marriage as an opening of marriage laws to same-sex couples, he claimed gay couples were asking for “special privileges, special treatment that is denied to other folks”.
