The amazing reason thousands of men are painting their nails
Thousands of men and women across the Netherlands are painting their nails this week for the best reason.
Six-year-old Tijn, who has a terminally illness, put is raising money for support for Serious Request, a charity fundraising day for the International Red Cross run by radio station 3FM.
The boy, who has a rare form of brain cancer, says his final wish is to help save other children.
His dad explained to 3FM: “Most of the poor kids infected with pneumonia don’t even live to be five years old. That is why we’re standing up to fight”.
The boy took to the streets outside the studio in Breda, offering to paint people’s nails in return for a €1 donation to the charity.
However, his appeal has caught on across the country – with people participating by painting their nails and sending a donation.
So far, more than €1.5 million (£1.2 million) has been raised via Tijn’s appeal.
Hundreds of people from across Netherlands have shared pictures of their newly-painted nails, including a number of celebrities.
They include DJ Don Diablo and actor Timor Steffens. Far-right leader Geert Wilders also took part in the campaign.
A statement says: “Tijn asks people to donate €1 every time he paints someone’s nails. However, anyone can participate. Paint your nails, make a donation on this page, and challenge three of your friends to do the same by tagging them in your social media post.”
