Robot marriage is next after same-sex marriage, say experts
Experts are predicting that humans will be able to marry robots by 2050.
David Levy, author of a book on human-robot love, made the prediction at a ‘Love and Sex with Robots’ conference.
It’s claimed that because society used to look at same-sex marriage as unthinkable, which is now legal in some countries, the prospect of robot marriages is now on the cards.
The University of London event predicted that the human-robot marriages will be legal by 2050.
Though it may seem far flung, robots that humans can have sex with have long been in the pipeline.
Now those in the know are predicting that humans will be able to go one step further and invest maritally in their robotic partners.
Adrian Cheok, a computing professor at City University London and director of the Mixed Reality Lab in Singapore, says the prediction is not so unlikely.
Prof Cheok told the conference: “That might seem outrageous because it’s only 35 years away.
“But 35 years ago people thought homosexual marriage was outrageous,” says Cheok, who also spoke at the conference.
“Until the 1970s, some states didn’t allow white and black people to marry each other.
“Society does progress and change very rapidly.”
Not only is the revelation predicted – but it’s predicted to be a positive thing.
Prof Cheok thinks it will resolve the issue of unhappy marriages faced by many people.
“People assume that everyone can get married, have sex, fall in love.
“But actually many don’t,” he says.
“A lot of human marriages are very unhappy,” Cheok says.
“Compared to a bad marriage, a robot will be better than a human.”
