Gay director John Waters hospitalised over festive period
Gay director and icon John Waters has been hospitalised over the festive period.
Waters fell ill and needed treatment for kidney stones, but the instance forced him to miss him own annual Christmas bash.
The party still took place two days before Christmas, but Walters stayed away.
“It was a very weird Friday evening, a John Waters party without John,” a guest said after the party, reports Baltimore Fishbowl.
“Since my party has always been private and off the record I think I’ll just keep it that way,” Waters wrote in an email to attendees of the party. “I am fine and it’s a new concept in home entertainment — the host doesn’t show up. All is well. JW.”
Waters is reportedly back at home and recovering from the stones.
His health scare shook the community after the loss of a slew of LGBT celebrities and icons this year.
The loss of Bowie and Prince all left a gap in the hearts of many.
As well as the recent news of the death of George Michael, Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds.
The iconic director of queer cinema made the headlines last year when he disregarded gender pronouns while talking about Caitlyn Jenner.
Waters said: “The Bruce Jenner/Caitlyn thing is kind of old hat to me. I had a transgender woman in Pink Flamingos. She had breasts and a penis. She got the operation that week. That was radical to me then.”
He further states that Caitlyn should not be immune from jokes: “Caitlyn’s a Republican, she’s on a reality show, and she’s a Kardashian. We can’t make fun of him or her?”
