Feds drop terror indictment of man who threatened gay bar massacre
Federal prosecutors have dropped a terror charge faced by a man who threatened to attack gay bars.
A man by the name of Craig Jungwirth caused alarm last summer when he took to Facebook to allegedly claim he was planning an attack bigger than the Orlando massacre.
He allegedly posted: “If you losers thought the Pulse Nightclub shooting was bad, wait ’til you see what I’m planning for Labor Day.
“I’m gonna be LOLing you fags faster than cops kill n****rs. It’s time to clean up Wilton Manors from all you AIDS-infested losers.”
Jungwirth was later arrested, initially on an unrelated charge of driving on an expired license, but was later hit with a federal indictment on a terror charge which prohibits sending “any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another.”
However, federal prosecutors dropped the terror-related charge this week.
According to Florida’a Sun Sentinel, court records show the indictment was dropped after prosecutors acknowledged “weak” evidence during a preliminary hearing.
The US Attorney’s Office has declined to comment on the decision.
Jungwirth will remain jailed, pending trial for the unrelated state charges of criminal mischief.
Nick Berry, owner of Rumors Bar and Grill, previously recalled terrifying encounters with Jungwirth.
He said: “He wants to do bigger than the Orlando massacre and he wants to come down here and do it in Wilton Manors.
“I kind of know that this guy could have it in him to do this. I believe he has some mental issues.
“To post something like that, you have to be mentally deranged.”
