Pharrell collaborator Kim Burrell loses radio show over homophobic sermon
Gospel singer and preacher Kim Burrell has lost her own radio show after going on a homophobic rant during a sermon.
In a church sermon last week, pastor and singer Kim Burrell – who features on Pharrell track ‘I See A Victory’ – claimed that homosexuality is an “evil spirit” and that homosexuality is a perverted act.
Burrell claimed: “Anybody in this room who is filled with the homosexual spirit, pray God to free you. You’re playing with it in 2017, you’ll die from it.
“That perverted, homosexual spirit is a spirit of delusion and confusion. If you, as a man, will open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted.
“If you are a woman and you shake your breasts in another woman’s face, you are perverted.”
Burrell had already been dropped from a performance on the Ellen Show with Pharrell, but has now lost her own radio show.
Her radio show was launched around five months ago on Texas Southern University’s KTSU-FM 90.0, but she has been dropped.
The station confirmed that her show had been cancelled to the Associated Press.
Pharrell has since responded to say he condemns hate speech “of any kind”, following widespread damning criticism of his collaborator.
And Frank Ocean’s mom, Katonya Breaux, has added to the conversation about Burrell, saying that her son should drop her from one of the songs from his latest album ‘Blonde’.
She tweeted: “Me: Son, can we crop Kim Burrells voice out of your song??”
Adding: “I mean damn. Hypocrisy and the inciting of hate pisses me off. Opportunistic &?%#€!!.”
Burrell appears on Ocean’s song ‘Godspeed’. The singer Ocean, famously came out as bisexual in 2012.
