Vandals smash up LGBT centre in Pennsylvania
Authorities are investigating a break-in at an LGBT community centre.
Police are looking into the break-in at the LGBT Community Center of Central Pennslyvania.
The break-in took place at the centre in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
According to police, smash at the front door was smashed during the incident.
A donation bin with a small amount of cash was stolen, according to reports.
A statement was released by the centre, reading: “Regardless of the motivation of this act, it remains upsetting that our community space has been violated. Many of you have expressed the desire to “do something” in response to this.
“To that end, the Center will be hosting an open house tomorrow night, Saturday, January 7, from 5-8 pm. We invite you to share about it on social media using the hashtag #ThrowPartiesNotBricks. Bring refreshments to share if you would like to contribute. If they are non-perishable and we have too many, we will simply use them for future programs. This is an all-ages event; please do not bring alcohol.
“We hope you can join a fun, relaxed evening of community, as we demonstrate that what we have going on at the Center will not be slowed down! Stop in for any amount of time.”
Police continue to investigate.
Back in December, vandals broke into a queer youth centre in Rhode Island and hung a noose from the ceiling.
The break-in was reported at the Providence Youth Student Movement in Providence, Rhode Island.
The centre runs Queer & Trans Thursdays, a space for LGBTQ youth of colour and allies.
