Nike unveils awesome line with out gay skateboarder Brian Anderson
Nike has released a new line in conjunction with out gay skateboarder Brian Anderson.
Anderson, who took the skating community by storm in the late 90s with his daredevil moves, revealed his sexual orientation on Vice Sports’ ‘Reda for the World’ back in 2016.
He believes that he was able to avoid speculation because he doesn’t fit the stereotype of what a gay man is.
“I was a big, tough skateboarder,” he said.
“They’re not gonna question that. Nobody thought anything.”
The 40-year-old became a professional skater in 1998 and currently has sponsorship deals Spitfire and Nike. He also launched a shoe line with the sports company in 2013.
The line includes a number of items in simple colours as well as leopard print and camoflage patterns.
It was borne out of a sketch from Anderson who says: “I just was sitting at a café while we were filming for our last video in Seattle, and I just drew up a hockey jersey.”
He sent the drawing to Nike and out of that the collection was created including a jersey, Nike Icon Hoodie, Nike Shield Coaches jacket, sunglasses and Bruin Hyperfeel.
Speaking to Highsnobiety: “I sent it to campus to be like, ‘Hey guys, let’s follow this pattern,’” Anderson said. “The wrists and the forearms are not super baggy and wavy. The fitting is great.”
