Azealia Banks ‘would love’ to play at Trump’s inauguration

Controversial rapper Azealia Banks has said she would like to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday.

Banks, who in November shared merchandise hats reading ‘Make Azealia Great Again’ in a play on Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’, wrote on Facebook that she would “love” to play at Friday’s inauguration ceremony.

She said: “Saw the entertainment line for the inauguration it made me very upset. This is an EPIC moment in modern history and it should def be celebrated in style. I would love to perform at the inauguration.”

Her bid for the controversial gig, which has seen Dream Girls star Jennifer Holliday drop out over the implications for LGBT fans, was supported by professional troll Milo Yiannopoulos.

Yiannopoulos commented on the post, writing: “You’re my first, second and last choice.”

Banks responded: “Me and you in the front row looking MAAAAD cute omg we would break the internet”.

Yiannopoulos, who was banned from Twitter earlier this year after allegedly encouraging a wave of racist abuse directed at Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones, is capitalising on his cult-like following with a ‘Dangerous Faggot Tour’ at universities and colleges across the US.

But despite repeated protests, university administrators decided that Yiannopoulos – who says he would ‘cure’ himself of being gay if he could and describes trans people as “mentally ill… gay men dressing up for attention” – should still be allowed to speak at the event that happened in December.

Yiannopoulos proceeded to use the event to single out and humiliate a transgender student who attends the university, exactly as protesters had warned he would.

Meanwhile, Banks finally promised last year to stop saying the word “faggot” after being banned from Twitter for homophobia. 

Banks, who has not released a successful single in four years, was banned from Twitter after her comments about One Direction singer Zayn Malik – who she referred to as a “faggot”, a “sand nigga”, a “d**k rider” and a “paki”.

Banks has also referred to the LGBT community as the ‘gay white KKK’ in the past.

She had lost a string of bookings after the Malik row, and wrote on Facebook last June: “OK, i’m never saying the word F****T ever again.

Trump’s inauguration, set to take place on Friday 20 January, is expected to draw massive protests and boycotts.
