This gay Buddhist monk is taking the makeup world by storm with his incredible looks
A Buddhist monk is making a name for himself in the beauty world with his incredible makeup looks.
26-year-old Kodo Nishimura officially became a monk in 2015, but began to work as a makeup artist after discovering how much he enjoys making people happy through the use of beauty products.
The artist shares his looks, which he completes on himself and a slew of models, on Instagram.
Nishimura experienced turmoil when he began establishing a name for himself in the beauty community, as monks are taught not to indulge in a lavish appearance.
However, he sought out guidance from his mentor who told him that “it isn’t wrong if it helps you deliver your message to people.”
The monk, who came out in the magazine Out in Japan, was further inspired by makeup as he met a lot of trans people on the shoot.
He found that a lot of the trans people did not feel comfortable or experienced using the products, which sparked Nishimura to begin free seminars teaching LGBT people how to use makeup in Japan.
“As a Buddhist monk, I want everyone to live happily in harmony. I believe makeup is one of the tools to make yourself happy, and if you’re happy, it becomes easier to be kind to others.
“In that sense, I think it’s a good link,” he said.
