Tom Daley: Old women don’t recognise me with my clothes on
Diving heartthrob Tom Daley has admitted it makes a welcome change when he wears clothes in public.
In a new interview with Attitude magazine, the Olympian revealed that people don’t even recognise him fully clothed.
“Outside of the pool I don’t walk around the house in my trunks!”, he told the mag.
“The other day, an old lady came up to me and said: ‘Gosh, I don’t recognise you with your clothes on!’ and I guess people see me on TV and diving with no clothes on.
“It’s nice to go to a photoshoot and actually wear something.”
Daley also opened up about failing at his Olympic gold medal dream for a second time in last year’s Rio games.
He says his physical and mental health were in good order, but things simply didn’t work out on the day.
“I was in the best shape of my life at the Olympics, in terms of physical and mental health.
“That shows in the fact that I got an Olympic record and won the prelim.
“And then the next day was rough [he came last and didn’t make the final] … Your body can only produce so much adrenaline to get you back up there.
“I felt good in my body, I felt good knowing what I had to do.
“But that mind-and-body connect wasn’t quite there.”
The March edition of Attitude is out now
The 22-year-old recently expressed regret after he was exposed as having ‘online sex’ with a man he’d connected with via Instagram.
Daley allegedly told The Sun that partner Dustin Lance Black knew about his online sex sessions before the videos surfaced, and has pledged that it will never happen again.
