Frank Ocean’s father sues him for $14.5m over gay slur claim
Frank Ocean’s father, Calvin Cooksey, is suing his son for $14.5m over claims he used a gay slur against a waitress.
The claim dates back to a message that Frank posted on Tumblr during the Orlando massacre in June last year.
In the post, the singer told fans about the first time he heard his dad use a homophobic insult.
“I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out of a neighbourhood diner, saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty,” he said on the social media site.
“That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t.”
His father has now alleged the star has damaged his reputation and affected his ability to pursue opportunities for his own film and music career.
Mr Cooksey denied he made the comments.
Frank has yet to make any comment on the case his father is pursuing.
Last year the singer’s second album, Blond, proved a massive hit and debuted at number one in the charts.
Recently, his mother asked him to cut hate preacher Kim Burrell out of his song.
