Kylie Minogue took down Kylie Jenner’s attempt to trademark ‘Kylie’
Kylie Minogue has defeated Kylie Jenner in an attempt to trademark the name “Kylie” in a legal battle that began in 2014.
The Keeping up with the Kardashians star attempted to trademark the name, but Kylie Minogue launched a legal dispute over the matter.
Minogue’s legal representatives sent a letter to the US Patent and Trademark Office saying that the 19-year-old should not be granted the trademark because she is ”a secondary reality television personality”.
In the filing, Minogue also attacked Jenner over criticisms from disability rights groups and African American communities.
It read that Jenner is “active on social media”, and criticises her for “her photographic exhibitionism”.
Minogue has already trademarked the names ‘Kylie Minogue darling’, and ‘Lucky – the Kylie Minogue Musical.
This is in addition to the classic ‘Kylie Minogue’.
The patent office rejected the application by Jenner, but it is believed she has launched an appeal.
The news comes after Minogue split from her fiancé Joshua Sasse this week, following accusations that he cheated on her with the Spanish actress Marta Milans.
The singer, 48, had been due to wed British actor Joshua Sasse, 29, after announcing their engagement in February 2016.
They’d been dating for almost two years after meeting on a US show Joshua Sasse stars in, where Kylie made a guest appearance.
Sasse had said the couple won’t get married until same-sex marriage becomes legal in Australia.
Minogue has been vocal in her support of the “Say I Do Down Under” campaign – which just so happens to be headed by Sasse.
