Sense8 star speaks out on rumours Netflix plans to axe show
One of the stars of Netflix series Sense8 has admitted its future is still up-in-the-air, amid rumours that the upcoming second season will be the last.
The acclaimed drama series from transgender sibling sci-fi directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski follows eight pansexual individuals around the globe with an apparent psychic connection.
The show features openly trans actress Jamie Clayton – making it notable as the first mainstream show to have an openly trans writers penning a trans role for an openly trans actress.
It is set to return for a second season in May following on from last year’s Christmas special, but rumours are swirling that streaming giant Netflix is planning to ditch the show due to underwhelming ratings.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Brian J Smith – who plays sensate Will Gorski – admitted the future of the show is still undecided.
He said: “That all rests with Netflix and also the fans, too – if they like what happens, and they like what they see in season two, we’ll hear about it.
“I think we’ll all know whether or not we should do a third season. I hope we do.
“I can say there’s definitely more story to tell after season two. We’re not done with it and I hope we get to finish it, I really do.”
He added that the show was “not to everybody’s taste”, adding: “For every person who thinks that it’s this work of art, there’s someone else who thinks it’s the biggest piece of shit they’ve ever seen.
“Who’s right? Who cares!
“It’s art. Your reaction to it is a reflection of who you are and your own values.”
