Dead or Alive singer Pete Burns excluded from Grammys memorial segment
Former Dead or Alive singer Pete Burns was left out of the Grammys’ memorial section.
Burns rose to fame through the band’s iconic hit 1985 single ‘You Spin Me Round’.
However last night’s Grammys memorial segment failed to recognise the star.
The likes of George Michael, Prince and Carrie Fisher were all celebrated during the awards.
Adele gave an emotional tribute to the Wham! star, despite stumbling and crying part way through.
The bisexual singer was included in a longer list of 800 performers on the Grammys website – raising questions of why he didn’t make it to the show.
Fans reacted badly to Burns conspicuous absence from the list.
It wasn’t the only surprise of the night, after Beyonce lost out on the Best Album title to Adele, before Adele split the gong in two and offered it to Bey.
Burns became known in later life for his gender non-confirming appearance and cosmetic surgery.
He also enjoyed a later career appearing on reality shows including Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Wife Swap, Come Dine With Me.
A statement after the singer’s death confirmed he died of a heart attack: “It is with the greatest sadness that we have to break the tragic news that out beloved Pete Burns of (Dead Or Alive), died suddenly yesterday of a massive cardiac arrest.
“All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star. He was a true visionary, a beautiful talented soul, and he will be miss. by all who loved and appreciated everything he was and all of the wonderful memories he has left us with.
“We have no more words, we will make a further statement when we have had a chance to come to terms with our devastating loss. He will live forever in our memories.”
