Kellyanne Conway claims it was someone else who tweeted a white nationalist from her account
Senior White House Counsellor Kellyanne Conway has claimed she didn’t retweet and respond to a white nationalist and it must have been someone else.
On Tuesday, Ms Conway tweeted a reply to Matt Lauer, the Today Show host, who suggested her dodging of questions about Mike Flynn made no sense.
It read: “I serve at the pleasure of @POTUS. His message is my message. His goals are my goals. Uniformed chatter doesn’t matter.”
The tweet received a number of likes and retweets from people mainly on the right of the political spectrum, including a few far-right extremists.
One of those was Lib Hypocrisy, an account of a 19-year-old user who lists themselves as a “#WhiteIdentity #Nationalist” with a “LOVE” of far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
As well as retweeting Ms Conway, Lib Hypocrisy sent her a message of support.
“@KellyanePolls your strength and resiliency in face of vile hatred, bigotry and sexism of the unhinged Left is a daily inspiration! Love you!” it read.
Not only did Ms Conway retweet the support, she replied by saying, “love you back. Happy [loveheart emoji] Day to the Hapless Haters”.
When confronted by BuzzFeed about her support of a white nationalist, she claimed she didn’t do it and didn’t know who did.
“I don’t know who had access to my account,” she said.
“Let me see who tweeted that. That’s terrible.
“I denounce whoever it is. It will be immediately deleted. Everybody makes mistakes.”
The tweet has now been deleted.
Ms Conway has proved a controversial figure since joining President Trump’s campaign.
Following his inauguration, she has made up shooting massacres that don’t exist and defended lies as “alternative facts”.
Bravo star Andy Cohen said last month that he wanted to recruit her for a series of Real Housewives.
