Angela Lansbury to join the cast of new Mary Poppins
Dame Angela Lansbury is to join the cast of a Mary Poppins sequel, it has emerged.
The 91-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down as she joins Emily Blunt, out actor Ben Whishaw and Meryl Streep in Mary Poppins Returns.
Drawing on the other books in the Mary Poppins series by PL Travers, the new story sees the magical nanny return to the Banks family during the Depression where Jane and Michael have grown up.
With children of his own, Mary has to show Michael and his children how to rediscover the fun in life.
Dame Angela, who has appeared in a number of Disney sing-alongs, including Bedknobs and Broomsticks, will play the Balloon Lady and no doubt have a few chances to blast a note or two.
Last year, the Murder She Wrote star surprised crowds at the 25th anniversary of Beauty and the Beast when she performed the iconic Tale as Old as Time.
Also in the cast is Ben Whishaw, who is a favourite to take over as the next Dr Who and Meryl Streep who has been noticeable for criticising new US President Donald Trump.
