Burglar breaks into church to leave note condemning gays and thieves
A burglar has broken into an LGBT-friendly church to leave a note against gays and thieves.
The individual entered Caldwell Presbyterian Church at some point on Wednesday night and vandalised a rainbow-coloured painting of North Carolina.
The tag quoted Bible verse Corinthians 6:9, which states “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men.
“Nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Ironically, the perpetrator stole a number of items from the church, including a kettle and bags of coffee.
Speaking to the Charlotte Observer, Rev John Cleghorn said the act was “clearly meant” to send a message and was a “clear attempt at intimidation”.
The church, which is inclusive of the LGBT community, has hosted a number of events for Charlotte Pride in the past.
Charlotte passed a non-discrimination ordinance for the LGBT community last year, but it was nullified by the passage of HB2.
New Governor Roy Cooper has attempted to repeal the act, known as the Bathroom Bill, with no success.
