Gay man glassed in the face for holding his boyfriend’s hand in a bar
A gay man has been hospitalised after being glassed in the face by an onlooker who apparently didn’t like that he held his boyfriend’s hand.
The 23-year-old un-named victim had a glass smashed into his face at the Kentish Drovers pub in Peckham on Sunday evening, reports the Evening Standard.
A witness told the newspaper that the attacker got aggressive when he saw that the two men were holding hands.
After police and paramedics arrived at the scene, the attacker fled, police said, but not before he smashed a glass into the face of the victim.
The victim was taken to a London hospital, and so far no arrests have been made.
Police at Scotland Yard have confirmed that the attack is being investigated as an anti-gay hate crime.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman told the Standard: “Police are investigating an assault on a 23-year-old man at a pub in Peckham High Street.
“Officers and the London Ambulance Service were called on Sunday, March 5 at around 10.30pm to the venue.
“The victim was taken to an central London hospital for treatment for facial injuries after being assaulted with a glass.
“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue. The incident is being treated as a homophobic hate crime.”
