RuPaul had this to say about people still not on board with trans rights
RuPaul has lashed out at people who fail to back trans rights.
The legendary drag queen made the comments to a TMZ reporter while walking through New York City.
He was responding to questioning about the Supreme Court’s decision to not hear the case of Gavin Grimm and bathroom rules.
He told the reporter: “We are moving forward into a place where the human race is expanding.
“The people who are against this kind of thing, they’re stuck in the 20th century.
“You know God bless them but we’re moving (forward).
“If they want to go backwards, fine. But just know that they’re obsolete and they know it.
“And this is their last-ditch effort. We as human people on this planet are moving forward.”
He added: “Our best defense is our brightness, our love, our ability to have a spirit and dance. That’s what we are teaching kids to do.”
The Grimm case was due to be heard on 28 March, but has now been sent back to an appeals court.
It was also revealed that the next season of RuPaul’s Drag Race will be going mainstream.
The edgy drag reality contest has aired on LGBT-specific channel LogoTV since its inception in 2009, becoming the channel’s biggest and most prized show.
However, it was announced today that it has found a new home on mainstream cable channel VH1.
The show, which will feature Lady Gaga as a guest judge for its March 24 premiere, is hoping to win a new audience with the leap.
Pamela Post, SVP of Original Programming and Development at Logo said: “Coming off RuPaul’s Emmy win and a ratings record-breaking season of All Stars, the fandom around RuPaul’s Drag Race has only continued to swell as we head into season nine.
“Broadcasting the show on VH1 will allow more fans to experience the energy, heart and talent these fierce queens bring to the stage every week.”
As part of the deal, Logo will continue to air extras and encore episodes around the series, so it won’t be left entirely in the lurch. Both channels are owned by Viacom.
Gaga’s long-rumoured appearance on the show was confirmed last month.
