Study finds a majority of Americans OPPOSE anti-LGBT bathroom bills
A majority of Americans actually opposes the introduction of anti-LGBT ‘bathroom bills’.
Such legislation typically limits the rights of transgender people to use a bathroom which matches their gender identity.
A poll by the Public Religion Research Institute found that 53 percent of respondents oppose measures such as HB2 in North Carolina.
Broken down by political party, 65 percent of Democrats and 36 percent of Republicans oppose the legislation.
Overall, 40 percent of people said they approved of bathroom bills.
Around ten percent said they had no issue on the subject.
North Carolina introduced its bathroom bill, HB2.
The state has then seen strong opposition, and has been urged to repeal the measure.
Texas is still in the process of introducing its own bathroom bill, which was the subject of massive protests earlier this week.
When it comes to nondiscrimination legislation, the PRRI poll found that 70 percent support anti-discrimination legislation for LGBT people.
This included 60 percent of Republicans.
