Designer Zac Posen is the latest to refuse dressing the Trump family
Fashion designer Zac Posen has become the latest in a string of designers to refuse to dress the Trump family.
Posen, who has previously worked as a judge on Project Runway and is the head of the Brooks Brothers’ womenswear line has said that he is protesting the presidency by not dressing the first lady or the rest of the Trumps.
The gay designer said that the Trump administration’s approach to LGBT rights, immigration, women’s rights and Planned Parenthood were all “issues that are being questioned that are fundamentally upsetting to me.”
“These are just issues that are very close to my heart, and I use my own private voice and funds to fight for them and in support of them,” he told the Daily Beast. “I think it’s important to use your voice.”
“I think everybody has a political responsibility, everybody has a voice, whether in fashion or any field.”
Despite Posen’s protest, other designers including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger have said they will dress Melania and the rest of the Trump family.
Christian Siriano, another Project Runway judge, has also refused to dress the family, citing that they “don’t share the same values”.
Siriano and Posen are joined by other big name designers including Marc Jacobs, who said that: “personally, I’d rather put my energy into helping out those who will be hurt by [Donald] Trump and his supporters”.
Jacobs is on the list alongside Tom Ford and Vogue’s André Leon Talley, who said that he would not support the Trump administration even though they were friends prior to the election.
