Little Mix dedicates song to LGBT fans, saying: ‘Don’t ever be afraid to be who you are’
Little Mix has dedicated one of its songs to the LGBT community.
The record-breaking girl group, which has five number ones to its name, made the announcement during a performance in Kansas City, in Missouri, this weekend.
The band performed its track Secret Love Song in the name of all its LGBT fans.
Posting on Instagram after the gig, bandmate Jade Thirlwall wrote: “Secret Love Song meant more than usual tonight.
“To our LGBT fans…please don’t ever be afraid to be who you are”.
One Instagram user said that the dedication of the song, which was released on the 2015 album Get Weird, meant a great deal to them.
“So glad you acknowledge the relevance and importance of that song to our community,” they wrote.
“The first time I heard it was when I was dating someone who could never be out because of religion, the risk to her safety was too high. So it’s pretty important to me personally. Thank you.”
Another fan wrote: “Are you kidding me, I’m terrified I’ll get thrown out on the street once my dad finds out. Don’t know if I could keep it up without you guys.”
The song is about unrequited love, and features lyrics like “It’s obvious you’re meant for me /
Every piece of you, it just fits perfectly.
“Every second, every thought, I’m in so deep / But I’ll never show it on my face /But we know this, we got a love that is homeless.”
The group has had five number one singles in the UK, and broke a record held by the Spice Girls when it registered the highest US chart position of any debut album by a British girl group.
