Trump and Pence meet with 30 men to discuss pregnancy and maternity care
US Vice President Mike Pence has been meeting with people to discuss new healthcare rules.
He shared a photo of him doing just that – and there was something quite striking about it.
Despite having a discussion about women’s right, pregnancy and the future of maternity care – things which affect women – there were no actual females in the photo.
Women’s health charity Planned Parenthood pointed out this anomaly, writing on the social network: “Here’s the picture of the leaders negotiating away birth control, maternity care and abortion. Notice anything?”
Mike Pence is also a supporter of so-called ‘gay cure’ therapy, despite denying this now.
President Trump met with the 30 men, all Republicans from the House Freedom Caucus, to discuss his plans to repeal Trumpcare.
He wanted to completely axe Obamacare in favour of his new plan, which reports say has since fallen.
“Appreciated joining [Donald Trump] for meeting with the Freedom Caucus again. This is it. #PassTheBill,” wrote Mr Pence.
The photo also shows more men bulging from round the sides, on top of the ones who made it into the VP’s post.
But another image shared from the meeting, including President Trump, indicates quite how awful the meeting was on the women front.
Cliff Sims, Special Assistant to Donald Trump and Director of White House Message Strategy, wrote: “Lengthy standing ovation from the Freedom Caucus when @POTUS walked into the Cabinet Room just now. Big momentum toward #RepealAndReplace.”
Mr Sims appeared not to have accounted for women in his Twitter message strategy.
The bill is now expected to fail, with the GOP only able to lose 22 votes in the face of the Democrats being united against the proposals.
Medical associations, consumer groups and hospitals are opposed to the new bill, alongside women’s rights advocates.
It’s not the first time, of course, that Trump has been trolled for lack of women.
When he signed an executive order axing funding for access to abortion oversees, there wasn’t a single woman in sight.
The Swedish Deputy Prime Minister, Isabella Lovin, trolled Donald Trump and the US government with one perfect picture in response.
Lovin was asked by reporters whether the all-female photo was a “direct attack” on the controversial US policy.
“You can interpret it as you want,” Lovin’s spokesperson said. “It’s more that Sweden is a feminist government and this is a very important law that we just decided on.”
