WATCH: The Filipino trans community made a beautiful video challenging stereotypes
The transgender community in the Philippines have banded together to make a video challenging stereotypes.
The moving video sees different trans people talk about the perceptions people have made about them, and why they are not true.
The video, which was released to mark the Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31st, was created by TransPH.org.
The project aims to raise awareness about the transgender community and the issues they face in the country.
Transman Equality and Awareness Movement (TEAM) is the organisation behind the project.
TEAM work to reach transgender people living outside of the country’s capital, Manila.
The people who collaborated on the video share important messages, which everybody needs to hear.
“I am trans, but I am not a faggot,” says one. “I’m trans and I’m not technically a girl.”
“I’m trans and I am not a disgrace. I am trans but I am not a burden”
“I am not mentally ill, I am not confused, I am not a sexual object, I’m not a sexual predator, I’m not a sinner.”
“I’m trans and I’m not trying to deceive anyone.”
As well as sending the important messages about how not to stereotype, the group open up about their passions which include sports, music, the arts, food and of course their family and friends.
“I am a cousin, I am a friend, I am a niece,” one explains.
“I have hopes and dreams.”
The video is one of many ways in which people across the world helped to celebrate the transgender day of visibility.
Meanwhile, In New York, One World Trade Center was lit up with the colours of the trans flag to mark the day.
