Top gay banker sacked for posting photos of his engagement on social media
A Brazilian banker has been sacked from his job for being gay, it has been reported.
With the headline “Banker with above-average results is fired for being gay”, a Brazilian news source reports that the man was sacked after a year and a half at his company.
Banco Itaú sacked the man despite him having received ten awards for meeting targets.
Apparetly he was sacked despite consistently being above average as an employee.
The man tells the news source that his clothes were not of an appropriate standard for work, and that he had “let loose” when he won a prize at work for targets.
He said he was eventually sacked after he went on holiday and posted photos and videos about his engagement to his fiance.
The man sys he was called in by his area manager and told that he was being sacked because of his sexual orientation.
Saying he felt “outraged” the man says he can’t believe an organisation of that size would still use sexual orientation as a reason to fire an employee.
The bank is yet to respond, and the complaint has been logged with its human resources department.
A union leader for the sacked man, Fábio Pereira, says this is not the first time that someone has been sacked at Itau for the same reason.
They urged the bank to change its policy on dismissing staff for such reasons.
