Caitlyn Jenner says she was ‘alienated’ by Ellen over same-sex marriage
Caitlyn Jenner has said she was “alienated” by Ellen DeGeneres over her stance on same-sex marriage.
In excerpts from her new memoir, Jenner says she felt like she was “alienated” from the LGBT community after an interview in which DeGeneres said she was “a little not on board” with same-sex marriage.
She writes: “I believed, as anyone would, that that was exactly what she wanted to talk about – my progression in terms of changing attitude over the years.
“I am for it… I did not initially understand why marriage was so important, influenced no doubt by my own personal experience. Now I do, and it’s a wonderful thing to see.”
Speaking to Howard Stern at the time, DeGeneres said: “I said, ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is, like, really confusing to people. And you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage’.
“She goes, ‘Well, if the word marriage is that important’. It is! That’s the word. We want the same thing.”
But Jenner writes in her memoir that she thinks the Stern interview led to her having her words taken out of context.
“This discussion further alienated me from members of the LGBTQ community,” she writes. “Ellen’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show, where in my mind she even more emphatically took what I said out of context, made it go viral.”
The Olympian will also reveal that she has undergone gender reassignment surgery in the new memoir.
The 67-year-old reveals that she underwent the surgery in the new memoir, The Secrets of my Life, which comes out on 25 April.
She says: “I just want to have all the right parts. I am also tired of tucking the damn thing in all the time.
“The surgery was a success, and I feel not only wonderful, but liberated.”
Adding: “I am going to have an enthusiasm for life that I have not had in 39 years since the Olympics, almost two thirds of my life.”
RadarOnline.com reveals the book exerpt, in which she says she wanted to open up about the surgery in the hope that fans will stop asking intrusive questions about the process.
“You want to know, so now you know. Which is why this is the first time, and the last time, I will ever speak of it,” she writes.
She works on the memoir with Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the profile on Jenner when she came out as transgender in Vantiy Fair.
According to reports, she has been given a $4 million advance for the memoir.
Earlier this year, rumours circulated that Jenner is due to join the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Her own reality show, I Am Cait, was canceled be the E! network after just two seasons, when ratings fell significantly in its second year.
The move wouldn’t be a first for the Real housewives franchise, however, having had trans women in their shows before.
Model Lauren Foster appeared on Real Housewives of Miami, and actress Amiyah Scott was invited to join the Atlanta version.
It comes after she appeared to withdraw her support for President Trump.
The trans reality TV star posted a video on her Twitter page, saying: “From one Republican to another, this is a disaster.”
She then added: “You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”

Jenner had previously given her support to Trump, and argued he could be much better for the LGBT community than people gave him credit.
However following the decision to officially reverse Obama’s transgender bathroom protections she has changed her mind.
Jenner had also offered herself as a trans ambassador for the Trump administration.
Jenner was previously shown reading PinkNews on her reality show, saying it shed light on her attitudes towards Ted Cruz.
