UKIP candidate who is attracted to gorillas says gays shouldn’t come out
A UKIP candidate has gone viral after revealing her very unusual manifesto – and a fondness for gorillas.
Gisela Allen, from Glasgow, Scotland, told a reporter from the Sunday Herald newspaper that she finds gorillas “very attractive”.
In a bizarre interview with the paper, she said this justified her argument that gay people should not “come out”.
The 84-year-old argued that she would not go around telling people she fancies gorillas – during the newspaper interview – so neither should gay people speak of their same-sex attraction.
“I am not anti-gay – but how can you call that a community?” she told the paper.
“Sex life is everybody’s private affair. You do not come out and declare openly.
“Do you think I am going all over the city and saying my idea of a sexually-attractive creature is a gorilla?
“When I go to a zoo and I see a gorilla my hormones go absolutely crazy. I find a gorilla very attractive.”
Ms Allen, who is widowed, made the remarks after her manifesto the upcoming Glasgow city council elections was published.

Ms Allen may be in similar company, as a recent poll found that UKIP voters are the least opposed to bestiality.
The woman, who said her views were not those of UKIP, who she is standing for, wrote in her manifesto that she wanted: “no sex education in school and I don’t want LGBT community.”
The Clydebank Post revealed that Ms Allen has been locally distributing a leaflet which makes a string of bizarre personal policy pledges.
She also called for capital punishment to be re-introduced, which is the view of UKIP’s leader Paul Nutall, but is not fussy how they do it: “I want the death penalty to be re-enacted. It doesn’t necessarily have to be hanging. You could have the guillotine. I think the public is entitled to protection.”
The manifesto continued: “Women with small children should stay at home and look after their own children. Nurseries shouldn’t get support.
“The whole school system needs to be overhauled. Every class should have a classroom and not get moved around.
“No sex education in school and I don’t want any LGBT community – it’s private life, none of anyone’s business.”
Ms Allen also wants to introduce euthanasia for the elderly because “people are becoming far too old”. To this end, she also plans to abolish free bus passes for the elderly because “these people should be encouraged to walk.”
The local UKIP branch has insisted her comments were personal views and did not reflect the party line.
On Saturday, Ukip’s head of press, Gawain Towler, told The Independent: “Having been able to read Mrs Allen’s personal manifesto, the people of Garscadden will be able to make their democratic decision as to whether they wish to be represented by her.
“One of the many fine things about Ukip is that its local councillors are not whipped. It is possible that we might make an exception in this case.”
A UKIP councillor in Somerset claimed last month that the NHS is in a crisis because “too much” funding is given to LGBT services, leaving “other people feeling put out”.
Nigel Pearson, a councillor for Chard North in Somerset, made the sweeping statement in a leaflet that was distributed prior to local elections.
As well as pinning the blame of the NHS crisis on LGBT services, the leaflet said that the national shortage of NHS doctors was due to “too many women being hired” in an act of “positive discrimination”.
It reads: “Women take career breaks to have a family and tend to only work part time when they return to the surgery. How many female doctors are there in your surgery working 2 or 3 days a week?”
