Miley Cyrus: ‘I’m gender-neutral’
Miley Cyrus has said she is gender-neutral.
The pansexual singer referred to herself as āa gender-neutral, Āsexually fluid personā in an interview with Billboard magazine.
Speaking about her appearance as a judge on The Voice right after the US presidential election, she said she had wanted to change peopleās minds about gender.
āI needed some sparkle in my life, to make me able to deal. Radiating love is Āsomething that is important to me – hopefully, that is being political.ā
The Wrecking Ball singer explained that she doesnāt feel like a girl or a boy: āI just feel like nothing.ā
And the 24-year-old said she sometimes asks her fiancĆ©, actor Liam Hemsworth, āDo you like being a boy?ā
Hemsworth, most famous for his portrayal of Gale in Hunger Games, generally responds with: āI donāt really think about it,ā according to Cyrus.
āAnd thatās crazy to me,ā Cyrus said, ābecause I think about being a girl all the time.
āIām always like: āItās weird that Iām a girl, because I just donāt feel like a girl, and I donāt feel like a boy.
āI just feel like nothing.āā
The singer has spoken about feeling āvery neutralā before, but this seems to be the first time she used the phrase āgender-neutralā to describe herself.
Cyrus said her perspective on the world also leads her to have negative reactions to men who too stringently obey their gender stereotype.
She added that her gender expression was not static, and neither were the genders of her partners.
āIām a little bit boyish. But I can also be super femme and dress as a bunny rabbit.
āWho Iām with has nothing to do with sex – Iām super open, pansexual, thatās just me.ā
Last year, Cyrus opened up about her struggle coming to terms with her identity.
āMy whole life, I didnāt understand my own gender and my own sexuality. I always hated the word ābisexual,ā because thatās even putting me in a box,ā she told Variety.
āI donāt ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl,ā she added.
Cyrus has been outspoken in her support of the LGBT community – even getting a tattoo in support equal marriage in 2011.
