Family of Manchester attack victim Martyn Hett issues an emotional thanks to online supporters

Martyn Hett’s family has paid an emotional tribute after he was killed in the Manchester bombing.

The 29-year-old’s death was revealed by his ex-boyfriend, Russell Hayward, on Twitter.

Tens of thousands had shared posts in a bid to track him down, but it later transpired he had been killed by the suicide bomber.

His family has issued a statement in tribute to his “infectious laugh and his niche sense of humour”.

“At 10.33pm on Monday May 22 2017 our beloved son Martyn just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Words cannot describe the generosity and kindness our families have received over the last few days.

“We are overwhelmed with the amount of lives he has touched and the kind words that are being said about him.

“Martyn was the icon of all our lives. His infectious laugh and his niche sense of humour will stay with us forever.

“He lived for every moment of every day and fitted an entire lifetime of memories into his 29 years.

“Whilst they have taken the life out of Martyn, no one can, and ever will, take Martyn out of our lives.”

Hayward, his former partner, called Martyn his “soulmate” in a heartbreaking tribute.

He wrote: “Soulmate doesn’t even come close. Come back to us Martyn so we can watch last nights Corrie together.”

“We got the news last night that our wonderful iconic and beautiful Martyn didn’t survive,” he said.

“I’m in a really bad way so please forgive if I don’t reply.

“Thankfully I have his wonderful family and amazing friends to keep each other strong. I love you Martyn I always will. X”

Martyn worked in public relations and was a popular figure on social media.

His friend Christina posted a poem in dedication, while his brother Dan simply wrote: “They found my brother last night. we are heartbroken.”

He received plenty of media attention when he was alive, with he and Russell being dubbed the ultimate “Coronation Street superfan couple”.

Martyn was due to travel to the US for two months after the Ariana Grande show, where he planned to join a meet-up of Mariah Carey fans and attend The Wendy Williams Show.
