This video of a bride singing to her new wife will make you cry as much as she does
A lesbian woman has sung to her bride on their wedding day – and it was beautiful.
Irish bride Lauren O’Sullivan started crying as soon as her new wife Heather – a professional wedding singer – belted out the first few bars of Elvis’s Can’t Help Falling In Love.
At the line “Take my hands; take my whole life too” Heather, 24, gave the microphone away and all 120 guests joined in with the singing, using lyric sheets sneaked to them beforehand by Heather.
Following along with the song’s instructions, Lauren, 28, obligingly took Heather’s hands so the Irish pair could enjoy their first dance.
And adding some humour to the heartwarming scene, Lauren then proceeded to grab Heather’s bum.
The tearjerking event comes as the Republic of Ireland stands on the brink of having its first ever gay prime minister.
Speaking to PinkNews, Heather said she was “used to singing in front of crowds,” but that singing “to my wife, the most important person in my life, and my biggest critic – now that was nerve-wracking.”
But, she added, it quickly became clear that she had made a good decision.
“Tears streamed from her face as I started to sing, and from that I knew I was doing the right thing.”
The newlywed said that the whole plan “was a total surprise for Lauren; she had no idea about the first-dance song” – especially as Heather had specifically lied about which song she’d pick.
“Initially when we heard it on the radio, Lauren and I both loved that song,” she recalled.
“As a surprise, I told Lauren I was going to pick the first dance song, and that it would definitely not be Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
The wedding singer explained that the Elvis classic “holds a special meaning” for the couple, who have been together for four and a half years.
“Our parents would say we have had a whirlwind of a relationship, between buying a house and getting married in the space of one year.”
She remarked that the lines ‘Wise men say only fools rush in / But I can’t help falling in love with you’ were therefore “very fitting.”
Heather said the pair had made their wedding into a four-day event at Blackwater Castle in Fermoy, in the south of the country.
Lauren’s father Joe led the ceremony in the walled garden, and told the couple: “Is féidir linn” – meaning “We can do” or “Yes we can”.
Heather said the line, which was used by the pro-equal marriage side during the referendum in 2015, “resonated with us, as I’m sure it does for every other gay or lesbian couple”.
Fine Gael is voting today to replace Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny, who announced his departure earlier this year.
38-year-old Leo Varadkar, the favourite to replace him as both party leader and head of government, would be only the fourth openly gay head of government in recent global history if elected.
