This makeup artist just became the first male model for Superdrug
Male makeup artist Georgie Aldous just made history as he became the first male makeup artist for cosmetic store Superdrug.
Aldous is the first male model for a new beauty range being launched by the company, NEW B.
It has been a long time coming for the model and makeup artist who started a campaign to get more men on British make-up campaigns.
Aldous started the campaign just before Christmas and considers his appearance alongside the other diverse models a success.
Talking to PinkNews, he explained that make-up was a passion he’s had since he was a child.
“I’ve liked make-up for as long as I can remember. I always had an interest in it when I was playing with it and wearing it.
“I didn’t want to take it off. Since then I’ve grown to love it even more and it’s now my career,” he explained.
Aldous, who is also a YouTuber, came out as gay online in 2015.
On the anniversary of his blogging premiere, the then 16-year-old decided to go public with his sexuality after coming out to close friends and family in 2013.
He explained that coming out online was a lot easier, but in his actual life, it presented a lot of obstacles.
He said: “I had the worst experience in school with bullying which included having to be escorted to and from the changing rooms as it got that bad and I did slip into depression and self-harm.”
However, he grew stronger and received a lot of online support and his career began to thrive.
“There was a lot of love and support coming my way, it didn’t affect my career negatively but it did bring a lot of love and support into my career making me want to pursue it further,” he added.
The make-up artist hopes that in the future his appearance will inspire other companies to include men in their campaigns.
“It’s something so important and something that shouldn’t even be a second thought anymore,” he added.
