X Factor’s Christopher Maloney hospitalised after cosmetic surgery in Poland
X Factor star Christopher Maloney has been hospitalised with “suspected deep vein thrombosis”.
The 2012 X Factor contestant had been in Poland with his friend Eastenders star Danniella Westbrook and had undergone cosmetic surgery.
According to the Mirror, Maloney had an eye lift, a nose job and a hair transplant.
But a spokesperson for Maloney said that he had been hospitalised after waking up with no feeling in one of his legs.
The spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Chris was rushed to hospital yesterday with a suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis – he has been treated and is currently undergoing further treatment.”
Deep vein thrombosis is where a blood clot forms in a deep vein in the body. It can lead to pulmonary embolism where a part of the clot travels to the lung and blocks a blood vessel.
Maloney had shared a picture of himself and Westbrook in bed following their cosmetic surgery procedures.
He said in an interview with the Sunday Mirror that he decided to get cosmetic surgery after being targeted by Twitter trolls.
Westbrook spoke out to say previous surgeries had left her face “crumbling”.
She said dental implants she had to replace a denture she had worn since losing teeth in a car accident back in 1998 had become infected, saying they had started “eating away” at her jawbone and cheekbones.
Westbrook told the Sun: “If your body has the wrong reaction to surgery, you’re screwed.
“I am never going to look the same ever again. People don’t realise surgery isn’t worth it. So what if you’re not perfect.”
Maloney came out as gay in 2013 after appearing on the X Factor.
Fellow X Factor finalist Jaymi Hensley of the band Union J came out during the series.
Other finalists Rylan Clark and Lucy Spraggan had come out before they made their X Factor debuts.
UK X Factor finalist Saara Aalto was this week chosen to judge the talent competition in Finland.
The singer was a fan favourite to win last year’s series when she reached the final.
Despite not winning, Aalto has moved on with her career and will now be a judge on Finland’s version of the show.
